5 Performers to Watch Out for in 2015

The start of the New Year is always exciting, as you don’t quite know what to expect and the New Year can surprise you in so many ways. It’s also a time for new talent to break through in the music industry and the past few years have produced scores of great performers like Adele and Sam Smith. So who to watch out for in 2015?

Kwabs

Big male voices don’t enter the music scene as often as we’d like, but 2015 could hopefully see a change to this with the likes of Kwabs. The Ghanaian-born Kwabena Adjebong, aka Kwabs, has the voice to make your jaws drop.

He also has quite a fairy-tale-like background, with him making it out from nothing and ending up studying jazz at the Royal Academy. His songs have plenty of raw emotion behind them, combined with some upbeat tunes. Give Walk a listen and fall in love with this big performer.

Rae Morris

Rae Morris has already made name in the music industry by performing with bands like Clean Bandit, but 2015 could see her break through big time. This singer-songwriter creates amazing electro-pop type ballads to take you almost off-guard.

Her music is inspired by the likes of Kate Bush and PJ Harvey; with Chris Martin being a big hero to her and you can sense these influences from her writing. Give Under the Shadows a listen.

Shura

R’n’B music is about to see a new face in 2015, with Shura making her mark in the genre. This singer-songwriter, who was born in Moscow to a Russian mother and an English father, is going to provide plenty of fresh vibes and a mixture of sounds.

Her music is very emotional, energetic and fun. It has influences from her time in South America as well as more textured pop sounds of the likes of Madonna and Janet Jackson. Give Touch a listen for a display of her talent.

Slaves

If you love garage music, then Slaves is the band for you in 2015. The band consists of Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent, who offer not only great sounds to listen to, but also an energetic and wild performance to experience.

The songs have plenty of high pace drumming and metal-like guitar riffs. The band is a breath of fresh air in terms of punk music and you can find a bit of Madness-like funkiness from their sound. You should give the song The Hunter a listen to get a taste of Slaves.

Ibeyi

Franco-Cuban twins Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz are an exotic talent to keep your eye out in 2015. They definitely have the roots to make it big, as their late father was the famous Miguel “Anga” Díaz, who played conga with the Afro-Cuban Allstars and Buena Vista Social Club.

Ibeyi’s, which means twins in Yoruba, music is a mixture of modern electronic sounds and ethnic African chants. It’s very much like good old-fashioned soul music, although there are plenty of pop influences to be found in their song list. Check out the song Mama Says to experience the unique sound.
