New Year Celebrations: London’s Top 5 Jazz Clubs

What better way to welcome the New Year than while listening to funky jazz tunes with your closest friends! London has a vibrant and big jazz scene, with a number of great clubs dedicated to smooth saxophones and sexy drum beats. Here are the top five jazz clubs to spend your New Year’s Eve.

The 606 Club

The 606 Club is definitely one of London’s most loved, as well as oldest jazz clubs. The club’s been going strong for over 30 years, growing from a small basement venue in Kings Road to a world known club at Lots Road.

On New Year’s Eve, you can expect the place to light up, as nine world-class musicians perform at the 606 Club stage. You’ll be treated with the finest soul and R&B singers of our time, including the fabulous Imaani.

Furthermore, New Year at the 606 Club isn’t just about amazing jazz, you’ll also get to enjoy the tasty exclusive menu by Jean Pierre. There are still a few tickets left to the event, so book yours now!

Hideaway

In 2011, Hideaway won the best UK venue award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, so you are sure to enjoy top quality jazz at this London venue. Hideaway’s big headline act for New Years Eve is the fantastic Soul Street band, which is sure to get you up on your feet.

The sad news is the tickets for the main event have already sold out, but don’t worry – we aren’t here to make you feel miserable! It’s still possible to book your spot at the Hideaway Jazz Café, with access to the main club later on.

Ronnie Scott’s

Ronnie Scott’s is the most iconic jazz club in London and if you are looking for an authentic, old-fashioned jazz experience, then this venue is for you. The club was opened in 1959 by the legendary British saxophonist Ronnie Scott and the place is definitely the spot to brush up on your saxophone skills.

It has welcomed plenty of legends, such as Sonny Rollins and Tom Waits, and you’ll get to enjoy a fantastic night of live music on New Years Eve. The event is black tie and it’s possible to enjoy a dinner beforehand as well. There’s also a more relaxed party at the upstairs bar at Ronnie Scott’s, if you are looking to perfect your dance moves.

Vortex

If improvised jazz is your thing, then London’s Vortex jazz club is the place to be. The club hosts a monthly improvised jazz night, which is definitely worth checking out if you are in town. The club doesn’t just provide amazing jazz performances either, as you can often enjoy interesting collaborations in poetry, film and performance art.

On New Years Eve, the club will be taken over by the amazing Ian Shaw. Shaw is one of the biggest names in jazz and his repertoire is an impressive selection of different genres. Vortex party will be an intimate night of great music and laughter.

Charlie Wright’s

Finally, Charlie Wright’s is a great jazz-focused club and the club will be hosting a New Years Eve party. There isn’t much information available on what the party will entail, so you need to keep your eye out for more information on the club’s website.

Although final details are still unknown, it is going to be a wonderful night of jazz music. The club regularly hosts amazing events that are filled with fantastic saxophone tunes and classic jazz vocals. So, you don’t want to miss the party.
